Tampere
Architectural competition in 2014, commission, project has been postponed
Client: The Foundation of Tampere Music Conservatory
Gross floor area: 6,400 sqm
The Tampere Music Academy houses facilities for music and dance performances as well as professional and recreational education. Together with the existing main Conservatory Concert Hall this future extension will form a versatile cultural complex. The extension houses a timber clad concert hall seating 400 and a black box hall seating 220, rehearsal spaces for dance education and a vast multi-purpose lobby. Music and dance studies will be offered from kindergarten to basic vocational and university level.
The location of the Music Academy required careful consideration regarding the adjoining Conservatory building, suitability within the Pyynikinharju ridge landscape and the introduction of a new element into the district’s architecture which encompasses several time periods. The scale of the building as well as the red brick and copper in facades link the new Academy building to the existing Conservatory.
